What you actually get

There's a lot that goes into a professional author site that you'd never see if you weren't looking. Here's what's under the hood on every build.

Every page gets proper meta tags, Open Graph images for social sharing, canonical URLs, and a sitemap โ€” so you're discoverable the day you launch, not six months later after Google finally decides to crawl you.

๐Ÿ“
Custom Design Hand-coded to your brand โ€” not a template modified to barely fit.
๐Ÿ”
Full SEO Setup Structured data, Open Graph, Twitter Cards, canonical URLs, sitemaps, robots.txt.
๐Ÿ“ฑ
Mobile-First Looks and works great on phones, tablets, and every screen size in between.
โšก
Fast Loading Optimized images, efficient CSS, and Cloudflare's global CDN keeping things snappy.
โœ‰๏ธ
Newsletter Integration MailerLite, ConvertKit, BookFunnel โ€” your sign-up form styled to match your site.
๐Ÿ“
You Own Everything All your files, delivered. Your domain, your hosting account. Nothing held hostage.

What you'll need to provide

The more you bring to the table, the faster we can build. Here's the checklist we send every new client.

๐Ÿ“ธ
Author Photo High-resolution, at least 800px wide. Professional preferred, but your vibe counts more than a studio backdrop.
๐Ÿ“š
Book Cover Files High-res JPEG or PNG for every book you want featured. Your cover designer should have these.
โœ๏ธ
Author Bio Short (75โ€“100 words) and long (200+ words) versions. Don't have one? We can help you draft it.
๐Ÿ“–
Book Blurbs / Descriptions The back-cover copy for each book. Exactly what you use on Amazon is perfect.
๐Ÿ”—
Buy Links Amazon, Barnes & Noble, direct โ€” wherever you sell. Universal links (Books2Read, etc.) work great too.
๐Ÿ“ฃ
Social Media Links Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Substack โ€” whatever you use. Leave out the ones you don't.
โœ‰๏ธ
Newsletter Provider Info Your MailerLite, ConvertKit, or other embed code so we can connect your sign-up form.
๐ŸŽจ
Brand Colors (if you have them) Hex codes, reference images, or just "I want it dark and moody" โ€” we'll figure it out from there.
๐Ÿ™Œ

Don't have everything yet?

That's okay โ€” most authors don't. Reach out anyway and we'll figure out what you have, what you need, and what we can work around. A missing bio or second cover won't hold up your whole project.

The honest cost breakdown

Hosting is always free. The only ongoing cost is your domain name โ€” here's what to expect.

๐ŸŒ

Annual Domain Costs (approximate)

.com (e.g., authorjanesmith.com) ~$12โ€“15 / year
.net or .org ~$13โ€“16 / year
.ink (e.g., janesmith.ink) ~$35โ€“40 / year
.author or .books ~$20โ€“30 / year
Cloudflare Pages hosting Free โ€” always
SSL certificate (HTTPS) Free โ€” always

Domains are purchased through Cloudflare, Namecheap, or your registrar of choice. Prices above are estimates and may vary. Your domain renews annually โ€” I'll remind you before it's due.

๐Ÿ’ก

Don't want to buy a domain yet?

No problem. Every site gets a free Cloudflare Pages URL (e.g., yourname.pages.dev) that works perfectly while you decide. You can connect a custom domain any time later โ€” it's a 5-minute change.

Questions we hear a lot

How long does a full site build take?

Most sites are done within 5โ€“7 business days of receiving all your materials. Gathering your photos, covers, and bio is usually the longest part โ€” once we have everything, the build itself moves quickly. Rush builds (under 48 hours) are available for a $75 fee.

Do I need to know anything about web design?

Not a thing. You focus on the content โ€” your bio, your books, what you want your readers to feel. Everything technical (code, deployment, SEO setup, domain connection) is handled for you. When you receive your files, they're ready to go.

What if I need changes after the site is live?

Every build includes one revision round before launch. After you're live, updates are flat-rate: $40 for a new book, $25 for minor edits, $100 for a full refresh. No retainer required โ€” just reach out when you need something.

Can I update the site myself later?

Yes โ€” you receive all your site files and you own them completely. If you're comfortable with HTML, you can edit anything you want. If that's not your thing, I'm always available for updates at the flat rates above. Either way, nothing is locked down.

What if I only have one book (or I'm not published yet)?

Perfect timing, actually. A site built around your first book establishes your brand before readers even arrive โ€” and it grows with you. We've built sites for debut authors and multi-book veterans alike. The design scales with your catalog.

Do you only build sites for authors?

Primarily yes โ€” the portfolio focuses on the publishing world (authors, editors, writing services). That specialization means every site has the features authors actually need, without paying for things you don't. Editors, writing coaches, and book-adjacent services are absolutely welcome.

How do I pay?

Payment is split 50/50: half upfront to reserve your spot, the remaining half before your files are delivered. Payment via PayPal, Venmo, or CashApp. No work begins until the deposit is received.

Still have questions?

The intake form takes about 5 minutes, and there's no commitment until you decide to move forward. Let's figure out if this is a good fit.
